Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Academy of Meteorological Research First round of public recruitment for the year 2025

Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Academy of Meteorological Research (hereinafter referred to as GBA Academy) is a national science and technology innovation platform that serves the construction of GBA, the goal of meteorological modernization, and the “21st Century Maritime Silk Road” national strategy. China Meteorology Administration (CMA) approved to set up GBA Academy in 2023, which centers upon the Guangzhou Institute of Tropical and Marine Meteorology, CMA, and aim to provide a platform to integrate various meteorological scientific research institutions in the Bay Area.

We are now launching the first round of public recruitment for the GBA Academy for the year 2025. The relevant announcements are as follows:

  1. Positions

    Research position
    At the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Meteorological Monitoring and Warning Centre
    Position Code: GBAA202501
    1. Vacancies available:2 in total
      1 for numerical forecasting data assimilation research; and 1 for artificial intelligence meteorological application position.
    2. Requirements
      1. Must be under 40 years old and hold a doctoral degree in meteorology, computer science, electronic information, mathematics, or related fields. Candidates with experience in meteorology or artificial intelligence will be preferred.
      2. Experience with state-level projects or research achievements applied in state-level units.
      3. Have published highly-cited paper on academic journals in domestic and abroad.
      4. Candidates with comparable academic status and qualifications.
    3. Duties
      1. For numerical forecasting data assimilation position: conduct R&D and application studies on data assimilation and numerical forecasting models if you are focusing on numerical forecasting data assimilation.
      2. For artificial intelligence applications in meteorology position: develop key technologies for large meteorological forecasting models and develop applications of large language models.
      3. Lead or engage in the applying and conducting various research projects.
      4. Undertake various academic research and other tasks as required by the warning center.

     

    Research position
    At the Foshan Tornado Research Center
    Position Code: GBAA202502
    1. Vacancies available:2 in total
      1 for tornado mechanism research and 1 for artificial intelligence meteorological applications.
    2. Requirements
      1. Must be under 40 years old and hold a doctoral degree in meteorology, computer science, electronic information, artificial intelligence, mathematics, or related fields.
      2. Have research backgrounds or work experiences in at least one of the following disciplines:
        • Meteorological radar observation technology and data application;
        • Data assimilation and predictability;
        • Dynamics and numerical simulation of extreme weather (such as tornadoes, supercells, etc.);
        • Artificial intelligence, etc.
        Applicants with work or study experience overseas will be preferred.
      3. Experience in conducting research and development on the formation mechanism, disaster mechanisms, and monitoring and warning of severe convective weather.
      4. Experience in leading state-level projects or have published papers in academic journals with a high citation rate.
      5. Equip with high level of research capability, innovative awareness, and good teamwork spirit. Applicants should be able to independently undertake research projects promote development in relevant discipline.
    3. Duties
      1. Follow frontier trends of tornado monitoring and warning, and conduct key technology research for tornado forecasting and other severe convective weather forecasting.
      2. Assist the director of the Tornado Center and the team leader in making development strategies and complete major R&D tasks as a team.
      3. Complete other tasks assigned by GBA Academy and Foshan Tornado Research Center.

     

    Research position
    At the Yangjiang Meteorological Support Technology Research Center
    Position Code: GBAA202503
    1. Vacancies available:1 in total
      1 for artificial intelligence meteorological applications.
    2. Requirements
      1. Must be under 40 years old and hold a doctoral degree in artificial intelligence or related fields.
      2. Have research backgrounds or work experiences in at least one of the following disciplines:
        • Collaborative processing technology and data application of multi-source meteorological data;
        • Dynamics and numerical simulation of severe convective weather;
        • Artificial intelligence;
        • Formation mechanisms, disaster mechanisms and monitoring and warning of severe convective weather;
        • Marine economic meteorological services, etc.
      3. Experience in leading state-level projects or have published papers in academic journals with a high citation rate.
      4. Equip with high level of research capability, innovative awareness, and good teamwork spirit. Applicants should be able to independently undertake research projects and promote development in relevant discipline.
    3. Duties
      1. Follow frontier trends of marine economic meteorological services and hazardous weather forecasting, leveraging cutting-edge technologies like artificial intelligence to conduct research on customized forecasting key technology.
      2. Assist making development strategies for the Yangjiang Meteorological Support Technology Research Center and the Key Laboratory of Meteorological Support for Offshore Economic Industries, and complete major R&D tasks.
      3. Complete other tasks assigned by GBA Academy and the Yangjiang Meteorological Bureau.

     

    Research position
    at the Zhuhai-Macao Collaborative Research Center for Meteorological Innovation and Application
    Position Code: GBAA202504
    1. Vacancies available:1 in total
      1 for Artificial Intelligence Meteorological Application.
    2. Requirements
      1. Must be under 40 years old and hold a PhD in meteorology, artificial intelligence, or related fields.
      2. Strong research capabilities and innovative spirit, able to independently undertake research projects while having the ability to coordinate cross-departmental and cross-team collaboration.
      3. Able to innovate meteorological application or develop meteorological technology, research direction in application of meteorological big data, artificial intelligence, and related fields.
      4. Applicants with work or study experience overseas, or with deputy senior professional title or above will be preferred.
    3. Duties
      1. Stay updated on cutting-edge meteorological technology and use new-generation information technologies like artificial intelligence for research on meteorological technologies.
      2. Oversee the implementation of key research projects and be responsible for tackling critical technical challenges.
      3. Complete other tasks assigned by GBA Academy and the Yangjiang Meteorological Bureau.
      4. Collaborate with the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area "1+N" technology innovation platform to engage in technology research, application promotion, meteorological technology innovation and related works.
      5. Complete other tasks assigned by the GBA Academy and the Zhuhai-Macao Collaborative Research Center for Meteorological Innovation and Application

     

    Operational Maintenance Position
    At the Xinfeng National Atmospheric Background Station Operational Maintenance Position
    Position Code: GBAA202505
    1. Vacancies available:1-2
      1-2 for the operational maintenance position.
    2. Requirements
      1. Must be under 40 years old, and hold a Bachelor degree or Postgraduate degree in atmospheric physics, environmental science, computer science, or related fields.
      2. With work experience in greenhouse gas, aerosol, reactive gas observation, atmospheric environment monitoring, or relevant work experience in computer.
      3. Must have a strong sense of work responsibility and awareness of duty during shifts. After training, should be able to independently handle the operational maintenance of the National Atmospheric Background Station(NABS), assist or independently carry out the construction observation database and the development of data platform, and possess good teamwork spirit.
    3. Duties
      1. In accordance with the management regulations for atmospheric background observation, responsible for the operational observation and maintenance of the Xinfeng NABS, the construction of observation database, and the development of data platform.
      2. Job duties and performance evaluation will refer to the relevant regulations and requirements set by the China Meteorological Administration regarding atmospheric background observation management.
      3. Assist researchers from the Tropical Environmental Meteorology Research Center to promote the application and service of observation data from the Xinfeng NABS.
      4. Complete other tasks assigned by leadership.

  2. How to apply

    1. Application: Applications should be submitted via email to gzrds@gd121.cn. Applicants must send their CV, education degrees and certificates, research achievements, and other relevant materials to the application email address. Applicants should indicate "Job Code + Your Name" in the subject line of application email.
    2. Qualification Review: Submitted materials will be reviewed by the GBA Academy's office and then determine candidates that meet the recruitment criteria.
    3. Interview Assessment: Candidates who pass the qualification review will participate in an interview assessment, with the specific time and location to be announced later.
    4. Physical Examination: After the interview assessment, a 1:1 ratio of candidates to be examined will be determined based on the number of positions available. The physical examination will be conducted strictly according to the "Implementation Rules for Physical Examinations of Public Recruitment Personnel in Guangdong Province (Trial)".
    5. Employment: Candidates who pass the physical examination will be publicly announced for no less than 7 working days. If there are no objections or if any objections raised do not affect employment, the hiring procedures will be processed in accordance with relevant regulations.
