Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Meteorological Research Institute – 2026 Second‑Batch Open Recruitment Announcement

The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Academy of Meteorological Research (GBA Academy) was established in 2023 with the approval of the China Meteorological Administration (CMA). It is a national scientific and technological innovation platform formed by integrating various meteorological research institutions across the Bay Area, with the Guangzhou Institute of Tropical and Marine Meteorology, CMA, as the core. The GBA Academy provides scientific and technological support for the development of the GBA, "21-st Century Maritime Silk Road" initiative, and the advancement of meteorological modernization.”

We are now launching the second‑batch of 2026 public recruitment for the GBA Academy. The relevant announcements are as follows:

I. Recruitment Positions

Guangzhou Institute of Tropical and Marine Meteorology, CMA(ITMM), is a core constituent unit of GBA Academy, located in Guangzhou (see attachment for details of ITMM). Focusing on three research fields: numerical weather prediction, marine meteorology and tropical hazardous weather, ITMM is recruiting both young talents and leading talents.

1. Young Talents Series (Generally under 40 years old)

  • Position 1: Research Position (Young Talent - Numerical Weather Prediction Direction) (Position Code: GBAA202601)
    1. Number of Vacancies: 1-2
    2. Qualifications
      (1) Under 40 years old, holds a doctoral degree, with a background in numerical weather prediction. Preference will be given to those with overseas work or study experience.
      (2) Engaged in numerical weather prediction research and development, with experience in undertaking national-level projects, or serving as a core team member to complete the development of numerical model algorithms or having published papers with high citation rates in domestic or international academic journals.
      (3) Be familiar with the application of artificial intelligence technologies in the field of weather forecasting, and engage in work related to the integration of numerical weather prediction and artificial intelligence.
      (4) Strong research capabilities and innovation ability, able to independently undertake research projects and promote disciplinary development, while possessing good teamwork spirit.
    3. Responsibilities
      (1) Focus on the cutting-edge developments in numerical prediction domestically and internationally, conducting research on key technologies for tropical regional numerical prediction.
      (2) Assist in formulating development plans for regional numerical prediction and completing key team tasks.
      (3) Participate in model operational shift duties, application outreach, and related activities.
      (4) Complete other tasks assigned by the GBA Academy and the laboratory.
  • Position 2: Research Position (Young Talent - Marine Meteorology Direction) (Position Code: GBAA202602)
    1. Number of Vacancies: 1-2
    2. Qualifications
      (1)Candidates must be under 40 years old and hold a doctoral degree. Preference will be given to those with overseas work or study experience.
      (2)Engaged in the study of meso- and micro-scale air-sea interactions, with experience in undertaking national-level projects, or having published papers with high citation rates in domestic or international academic journals.
      (3)Strong research capabilities and innovation ability, able to independently undertake research projects and promote disciplinary development, while possessing good teamwork spirit.
    3. Responsibilities
      (1)Focus on the cutting-edge developments domestically and internationally, conducting research on severe tropical weather.
      (2)Participate in field observation experiments and complete key team tasks.
      (3)Complete other tasks assigned by the GBA Academy.
  • Position 3: Research Position (Young Talent - Tropical Severe Weather Direction) (Position Code: GBAA202603)
    1. Number of Vacancies: 1-2
    2. Qualifications
      (1)Candidates must be under 40 years of age and hold a doctoral degree. Preference will be given to those with international work or study experience.
      (2)Engaged in the observation and research of severe weather, with experience in undertaking national-level projects, or having published papers with high citation rates in domestic or international academic journals.
      (3)Strong research capabilities and innovation ability, able to independently undertake research projects and promote disciplinary development, while possessing good teamwork spirit.
    3. Responsibilities
      (1)Focus on the cutting-edge developments domestically and internationally, conducting research on severe tropical weather.
      (2)Participate in field observation experiments and complete key team tasks.
      (3)Complete other tasks assigned by the GBA Academy.

2. Leading Talents Series

  • Position 4: Research Position (Leading Talent - Numerical Weather Prediction Direction) (Position Code: GBAA202604)
    1. Number of Vacancies: 1
    2. Qualifications
      (1)Holds a doctoral degree. Preference will be given to those with over 5 years of overseas work experience.
      (2)Engaged in numerical weather prediction research and development, with high academic influence domestically and internationally, having published multiple high-level papers in renowned domestic and international academic journals. Possesses the ability to lead teams in scientific research and technical breakthrough and has experience in undertaking various major scientific research projects or significant operational engineering projects.
      (3)Excellent communication skills and team spirit, able to coordinate interdisciplinary and cross-departmental cooperation and exchange.
    3. Responsibilities
      (1)Must work full-time in the key laboratory during the appointment period.
      (2)Organize the formulation and implementation of development plans for regional numerical prediction models, enhancing the laboratory's comprehensive strength.
      (3)Strengthen the development of the laboratory's talent team and research groups, enhancing the laboratory's international influence.
      (4)Enhance the integration of research and operations, focus on national and local major strategies, and economic and social development needs, carry out model technology, and improve model forecast accuracy.
      (5)Complete other tasks assigned by the Academy.
  • Position 5: Research Position (Leading Talent - Marine Meteorology Direction) (Position Code: GBAA202605)
    1. Number of Vacancies: 1
    2. Qualifications
      (1)Holds a doctoral degree. Preference will be given to those with over 5 years of overseas work experience.
      (2)Engaged in marine meteorological observation, model research, and mechanism analysis, with high academic influence domestically and internationally, having published multiple high-level papers in renowned domestic and international academic journals. Possesses the ability to lead teams in scientific research and the tackling of key technical problems, and has experience in undertaking various major scientific research projects or significant operational engineering projects.
      (3)Excellent communication skills and team spirit, able to coordinate interdisciplinary and cross-departmental cooperation and exchange.
    3. Responsibilities
      (1)Must work full-time at the ITMM during the appointment period.
      (2)Organize the formulation and implementation of team development plans, enhancing the team's comprehensive strength.
      (3)Strengthening the development of the team's talent pool and research groups, enhancing the team's international influence.
      (4)Enhance the integration of research and operations, focus on national and local major strategies, and economic and social development needs, carry out model technology, and improve specialized model forecast accuracy.
      (5)Complete other tasks assigned by the GBA Academy.
  • Position 6: Research Position (Leading Talent - Tropical Severe Weather Direction) (Position Code: GBAA202606)
    1. Number of Vacancies: 1
    2. Qualifications
      (1)Holds a doctoral degree. Preference will be given to those with over 5 years of overseas work experience.
      (2)Engaged in severe weather observation and mechanism research, with high academic influence domestically and internationally, having published multiple high-level papers in renowned domestic and international academic journals. Possesses the ability to lead teams in scientific research and technical and has experience in undertaking various major scientific research projects or significant operational engineering projects.
      (3)Excellent communication skills and team spirit, able to coordinate interdisciplinary and cross-departmental cooperation and exchange.
    3. Responsibilities
      (1)Must work full-time at the ITMM during the appointment period.
      (2)Organize the formulation and implementation of team development plans, enhancing the team's comprehensive strength.
      (3)Strengthening the development of the team's talent pool and research groups, enhancing the team's international influence.
      (4)Enhance the integration of research and operations, focus on national and local major strategies, and economic and social development needs, take the lead in applying for national key projects, and organize scientific research.
      (5)Complete other tasks assigned by the GBA Academy.

II. Recruitment Process

  1. Application: Submit applications via email to gzrds@gd121.cn. The email subject must be formatted as "Position Code + Your Name". Attachments should include a CV, copies of academic degree certificates, research achievements, and other relevant materials.
  2. Qualification Review: Submitted materials will be reviewed by the GBA Academy's office and will then determine candidates that meet the recruitment criteria.
  3. Interview Assessment: Shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview. The time and location will be notified separately.
  4. Physical Examination: After the interview assessment, the medical examination personnel will be determined in a 1:1 ratio based on the number of positions available.
  5. Employment: Successful candidates who pass the physical examination will be formally hired on a contract basis, with all procedures completed in accordance with the regulations.

III. Remuneration and Benefits

The GBA Academy offers a favorable research environment, startup project funding, a one-off settlement subsidy based on the applicant's qualifications, and the salary and benefits are generous and negotiable.
